Thalaina macfarlandi Moth Mask (2009) is one of four Moth Masks linocuts (1) selected by curator TJ Bateson for my solo show, PRINTS 1987 - 2016 at Tacit Contemporary Art. 

The exhibition launch is this evening, 14 September, from 6.30 – 8 pm. 

The Moth Masks series was the inspiration for one of my first fairytales, The Story of the Moth Masks, (2) and several of the moth-masked women appeared in my artist book, Women With Wings (2010). Moreover, the Moth Women were precursors to the dark and dangerous Moth Women Vigilantes, already the subject of numerous Moth Woman Press publications.

PAGE.PRINT.POST. opening event

PAGE.PRINT.POST. 50 Years of Artist Books was launched last Saturday, July 19. It marked my second visit to the show. Accurately anticipating a jam-packed opening, I sneaked a peek during the week, soon after the show had been installed. I was fortunate to have the gallery entirely to myself, enabling me spend some quality time with the work. Even so, it will take several visits to absorb it all. It's an exciting, dynamic show, elegantly and cohesively presented. Curators Debbie Hill and Geoff Willis have done a sterling job, especially considering the prodigious amount of book art and, as this show bears witness, the seemingly infinite forms it can take.

The opening was enormous fun - a lively, crowded affair. It was great to catch up with several friends, including local artists Jimmy Pasakos, Loris Button, Carole Wilson, her partner Annie, and two of our favourite book artists, Melbourne-based Gracia and Louise, who have several works in the show. Our friends Tim Gresham and Gaye Britt surprised us by driving from Melbourne to attend the opening, which capped off a splendid opening event.

The Moth Woman Vigilantes UNMASKED at BAZE

My second new zine The Moth Woman Vigilantes UNMASKED will also be launched at the opening of BAZE (Book Arts and Zine Exhibition) at Hand Held Gallery, Melbourne, on 20 December. In addition, I'll be exhibiting an artist's book, Women with Wings (2010, linocuts and rubber stamps, edition: 3). 

The Moth Women will be in fine company, as the exhibition will also showcase some of Australia's finest book artists, including Gracia and Louise, Paul Compton, Megan Herring, Anne Marie Hunter, Liz Powell, Helen Malone, Theo Strasser, Keira Hudson and Amanda Watson-Will.

The zine uses the same cut and folded format as Poker Faces (see previous three blog posts). The original artwork was painted in watercolour onto a sheet of Canson 250 gsm.

The Moth Woman Vigilantes UNMASKED measures 10.5 x 7.5 cm and is a signed and numbered edition of 100.

Our zines A Short Book about Long Hair and Material Girls (see Blog Post July 28) have recently been acquired by the State Library of Victoria.

The artist's book Women with Wings is a finalist in the 2010 Silk Cut Award for Linocut Prints. The exhibition is currently on view at Glen Eira City Council Gallery.
