Residency at Geelong Grammar School

From 23 May - 3 June 2022 I was artist-in-residence at the Corio campus of Geelong Grammar School, a richly rewarding experience I’ll long remember. 

During my residency I developed designs for three linocuts that will be included in a forthcoming artist book. My protagonists’ body decorations are based on compositional elements from the works of prolific British Arts and Crafts designer May Morris.

 

The two works below will also be part of The Artist’s Garden, a Goldfield Printmakers exhibition travelling to Bristol, UK in September 2022 for IMPACT 12, a biennial international printmaking conference. The tattoos on these figures are based on motifs in The heavens declare…, a panel designed and embroidered by May Morris in the 1910s (reproduced third from top).

Goldfields Printmakers at VAC Gallery, Bendigo

Deborah Klein, Leaves of Absence, archival pigment prints, 2015-16

Six of my Leaves of Absence archival pigment prints (pictured above) are currently on display in Goldfields Printmakers: Elemental, at La Trobe University Visual Arts Centre in Bendigo. The exhibition, which was curated by fellow Goldfields Printmaker Josephine Walsh, was launched last Thursday night by veteran artist Jeff Makin, to a warm and enthusiastic crowd.

During 2016, the Leaves of Absence series will be expanded to form the basis of a limited edition artist book. A selection of the images were recently included in the Moth Woman Press mini-zine, A New Leaf (2016).

Elemental opened on 24 February and runs until 10 April.

From Hangzhou to Ararat: 'Not Born Digital - Goldfields Printmakers'

Not Born Digital – Goldfields Printmakers is making its first public appearance in Australia after travelling to Hangzhou, China in September/October 2015 for the international printmaking conference, IMPACT 9.

The exhibition was launched at Ararat Regional Art Gallery yesterday afternoon by Dr. Loris Button, Adjunct Research Fellow, School of Education and Arts, Federation University Australia and participating Not Born Digital artist.

Huge thanks to the tireless James Pasakos, facilitator of Goldfields Printmakers, who has worked so hard to get this project up and running and Anthony Camm, Director of ARAG, for having us.
